On last nights episode of Late Night With James Corden, Cat Power aka Chan Marshall debuted a beautiful rendition of Frank Ocean’s “Bad Religion”. Marshall recently recorded the song for her upcoming album titled “Covers” which will be released by Domino on January 14th.
The Marshall produced album also features covers of songs by Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Lana Del Ray, The Replacements, Bob Seger and others as well as a new version of her song “Hate” from the album “The Greatest” re-titled “Unhate”.
According to Marshall when she was touring for her 2018 album “The Wanderer” performing her own song “In Your Face” was “bringing me down… So I started pulling out lyrics from ‘Bad Religion’ and singing those instead of getting super depressed. Performing covers is a very enjoyable way to do something that feels natural to me when it comes to making music.”.
