New York City’s Modern Diet have been releasing captivating indie pop songs for close to a decade now. Led by singer/songwriter Jake Cheriff the group have managed to produce a fine collection of releases that started back with 2015’s “Echo Parade” single. Their latest E.P. “Post Grad” features three songs that bring to mind the likes of The Apples In Stereo, The Shins and Ben Kweller.
The title track is fueled by Cheriff’s incredible vocal delivery and a shuffling beat and bass line. A mix of clean and dirty guitars dance on top of it all giving it a nice balance of elegance and grit.
“Dizzy” is a little more raw and packs plenty of punch. There are some really powerful dynamics that draw you in and push the intensity of the song while “July 4th” is a straight forward guitar driven power pop piece full of melodic hooks and uplifting melodies.
Overall I can’t say enough good things about this release. Top notch song writing and stellar production make it one of my favorite new E.P.’s to blast on repeat. Listen to it here.
