Alternative rock/shoegazers The Velvetheads offer up one of the most impressive records of the year with their latest full length “”you know, I did”. Taking influence from artists like Rocketship, Sonic Youth, and Yo La Tengo the bands fuzzy guitar sound takes welcoming twists and turns that revel in colorful psychedelic undertones.
The swooning dual vocals on “Bossa Gaze” harness an other worldly feeling that looms overtop of a sea of cinematic bliss. Along with opening piece “New Love” these two songs set the pace for the record really well.
The Galaxy 500ish “It Doesn’t Make Sense” moves from a lulling breeze into a full on wall of punk rock n roll mayhem while the reverb drenched “Hey Zombie” channels just the right amount of “lo-fi-ness” to make it fall someplace between The Jesus & Mary Chain and Sebadoh.
Other highlights include the driving riff of “Not Alone” which features some of the most incredible melodies you’ll hear anywhere, along with the frantic yet uplifting sounds of “What’s Wrong I’m Not Trying”.
From top to bottom this is an amazing album that meshes all of the right sounds together to create something very special. Listen to it here.
