Our Earth Is A Tomb have been making their brand of doomy, atmospheric music for several years now. Their 2019 debut “Moth” and last years follow up E.P. “Absentia” are some of the most psychologically heavy records to come out in recent years and the band has built up a solid following in Chicago and beyond.
This week the group released the first installment in their new “Hardcovers” series delivering renditions of songs by Lera Lynn as well as Kristina Esfandiari’s project Miserable.
Driven by hypnotic guitar tones and a passionate vocal delivery the group perform Lynn’s “The Only Thing Worth Fighting For” in exquisite fashion. They channel the perfect blend of primal energy and relentlessness with the cinematic elegance of the original. It all harnesses an other worldly vibe that draws you in and allows you to submerge yourself in the music in every way.
Meanwhile the bands take on the Esfandiari penned “Damned To Love You” incorporates a rich shimmering dreamy approach that sounds like a tsunami of sound crashing all over you. There’s a blissful energy to it all that I really can’t get enough of.
Overall this pair of covers are absolutely outstanding and it’s amazing to hear the band put their spin on music written by two of the most incredible songwriters going today.
