Chicago based band Supercorp create some of the coolest sounding DIY rock n roll you’ll hear anywhere on the third installment of their “Lissajous” E.P. series.
Lead off number “Grasp” combines intricate guitars and a galloping beat with vocals that harness a spoken/sung style stance and eventually give way to more abrasive levels as the track intensifies. The song channels the perfect amounts of beauty and grit to create something really inspiring.
“Christing” is also full of passion and melody and has all the makings of an anthem while “Dwindle” is a brilliant wash of percussive guitars and dynamic vocals that once again range from spoken to shouted. I love how the guitars play off each other so well in this song. There are so many cool nuances and accents going on that headphone listening is highly recommended so you can pick up on all of the little details.
“Paid Leave” is a slower piece that just might be the most powerful track of the bunch. The opening chords really set the tone for the amazing rush of energy that hits once all of the drums and distortion kick in. It also features more of the really cool but not cliché guitar melodies that set this band apart from others.
Everything winds down with the nine plus minute epic “So High”. This song has a lot of different aspects when compared to the others including a spectacular piano part that flows into a wash of psychedelic bliss. It’s a rather unexpected ending but one that’s welcoming and intriguing and leaves you wondering what this band will come up with next.
Overall “Lissajous III” is an incredible release that should be played loud and played often. Check out the track “Grasp” below and get the full E.P. here.
