Church Bus are one of the best new bands coming out of the always thriving Grand Rapids, Michigan music scene. Their latest release “Halfway Here” is a true work of art as all six songs are unstoppable bangers with incredible production.
Things get started with the melancholy riff of “Spent”. It’s harmonized vocals and laid back beat crawl along with uncompromising intensity before breaking right into the vibrant, quick paced “With Me Now” which is a mind bending master piece led by layers of modulated guitars, lush vocals and a thunderous rhythm section.
“Dig” showcases a great blend of crunchy guitars and intertwining melodies while “Tiny Shames” is another uplifting number that showcases the bands immense songwriting abilities. Meanwhile the records last two tracks “Runaway” and “Waiting” might actually be the most intense of the batch.
My take away from this E.P. is that Church Bus are a band made up of experienced musicians that mesh together in the perfect way. “Halfway Here” is my favorite record so far in this still very early 2025.
