London based alternative rock unit Space Magnetic offer up the first instalment in a three part album series titled “Sinking Ship Songs”.

Fittingly the E.P. opens with “This Ship Is Going Down” which introduces you to  the captivating sounds of vocalist Kristina Onaite who’s voice shines brightly over top of the songs “in the pocket” beat and indie rock guitar riffs.

Things continue with the blissful “Flags In The Sound” which showcases simple yet inviting synth tones alongside more octave based guitar work.

Meanwhile “Secret Of Light And Sound” is rich in both mood and melody and I love the nasty yet laid back feel of the the distorted guitars that flow in and out of the track.

You can see how the band are influenced by artists like Sonic Youth, Nirvana and The Breeders but they mix up the influences well and have honestly developed a sound that’s all their own.

Overall “Sinking Ship Songs” Part 1  is a brilliant beginning to this three part series and I can’t wait to hear what’s next.
