realitydancingasadream is the experimental project of Hereford, UK based creator Bee Benwell. After releasing a series of demos we now have the projects first proper full length album and I couldn’t be happier to take everything in.
Being a long time fan of music concrete, harsh noise, sound collages, ambient soundtracks and power electronics I’m instantly drawn to this record as it flows together almost as one cohesive piece of music and sound.
Everything begins with the nearly nine minute ” dream home / ens causa sui” which starts out with an array of cosmic tones and textures and builds into a mesmerizing wash of beautiful chaos before transforming into almost industrial noise at the end.
Things shift gears on the next piece “Penguins” as acoustic guitars ring out over a colorful layer of droning synths before quickly ripping into “I Am A Creature” which showcases an eclectic mix of eerie tones, distant voices and relentless intensity.
“Interlude 1” echoes the spirts of classic shoegaze while “I Want To Be Buried In Your Shoulder” is an uplifting piece that is meditative, hypnotic and warm.
Next we get the return of “Penguins” but it’s much longer, clocking in at over seven minutes were as the first version is under two. We also get “Interlude 2” which is another inspiring piece of sound manipulation that I can’t get enough of.
Eventually we get to track eight which like the name of the project is titled “realitydancingasadream” which is fitting because this track is a truly epic collection of incredible sounds that exemplify what the project is all about in every way. It’s almost like an album in itself at over twelve minutes long and I hear something new and inspiring in it with each and every listen.
Things end with the celestial sounds of “Wedding Dress” which brings everything to a close in grand fashion.
I really can’t say enough great things about this release. It’s inspiring, comforting and brilliant in every way and I hope you’ll take the time to experience it in full. Congrats to Bee on creating such a monumental album.
