Can of Clouds is an electronic/acoustic duo from the PNW comprised of Justine Jeanotte and Chad Channing. Justine comes from a classically trained background on violin and Chad has played in many rock bands most notably as the drummer on Nirvana’s “Bleach” album.

“Passing Vistas” is the duos first album and it’s absolutely stellar. Things start off with the uplifting sounds of “Popular Planet” which is full of rich violin sounds, acoustic guitars and fluttering synths that waver in and out of the mix. Overall it’s got a free flowing breezy feel to it that I really enjoy.

“Put It On My Tab” keeps the energy levels on high as it’s driving beat and sea of synth melodies carry the piece and remind me a bit of something from Air’s “”Moon Safari” album. It’s a really colorful piece that  you’ll be bobbing your head along with instantly.

Things get a bit more moody on “Answer From The Stars”  as the tones are more lulling and atmospheric while “Sand Drawings” features some really cool intricate playing that echoes the spirit of classic Dead Can Dance.

More prominent guitar work enters the fold on “La Sortie” and next to the phenomenal violin sounds it creates a warm, colorful and highly textured scene that’s very comforting to me. It’s got a nice shuffle to it rhythm wise and it’s a great example of the duos ability to mix things up and show different sides of their sound.

Other highlights include the elegant stance of “Moonglade”, the vibrant tone of “Blue Seclusions” the underlying 80’s feel of “Crosswalk” and the triumphant swagger of “March Of The Earth”.

Everything winds down with the title track which closes out the album in grand fashion and cements “Passing Vistas” as one of the most inspiring and original albums I’ve heard so far in 2025.  The performances, production and overall execution of this record are truly top notch from beginning to end and I can’t recommend it enough.
