Drama Club is a Brooklyn-founded psychedelic rock band. The group exudes approachable yet complex musical arrangements paired with honest, expressive lyrics and exploratory improvisation spanning a multitude of genres.

Their latest release “The S Tape” harnesses a colorful energy that flows through the songs in grand fashion.

Everything jumps off on the first track which is simply titled “Sludge”.  It’s jangling guitars and intricate bass line are sure to get you moving as the band quickly incorporates elements of jazz and funk into their cosmic blend of modern psychedelia.

“Sharpen The Knives” is a unique number that I just can’t get enough of. It opens with a captivating drum roll that quickly locks into a galloping beat. Soon psych fueled surf guitar tones hit the mix to create a very cinematic sound.  The distorted vocals give the song an even more welcoming aspect of mystery as the band mesh dashes of modern day indie rock with the swagger of a classic spaghetti western soundtrack.

“Sexy Redhead Lady In A White Robe” makes me think what it would’ve been like if Donovan had collaborated on a song with a young Marc Bolan while “Stalks Boogie” is probably the most rock n roll track of the batch with it’s cunning dynamics, powerful chord changes and cosmic improvisation.

Everything comes to a close on the garage rock banger “Scottish Squish” which channels the spirits of classic garage rock songs like The Grodes “Cry A Little Longer” and The Stoics “Enough Of What I Need”.

The bottom line is “The S Tape” is an amazing record by a band with top notch musicianship and songwriting skills which they use to carve out a highly enjoyable listening experience.
