Scottish Experimental Composer Charlie Butler returns with this brilliant two track E.P. featuring the compositions “Radiant Damage” and “Cure Wounds”.
“Radiant Damage” is a lulling piece full of colorful energy and mysterious tones. It’s layers of various frequencies and what I call “ghost notes” create an ocean size blanket of blissful sounds that are truly inspiring.
Some elements of darkness begin to filter in slowly around the ten minute mark which adds an even more cinematic side to it all as lower frequencies and haunting nuances build, before it evolves into blistering yet elegant levels of high end feedback.
“Cure Wounds” brings a heavy hypnotic side to the fold as what sounds like delay driven guitars paint a cosmic picture overtop of a wash of hazy drones.
It’s rich melody and free feeling stance give it an almost orchestral feel especially when the more percussive aspects get added into the mix around the five and a half minute mark.
It’s a truly beautiful and introspective piece that I absolutely love.
Overall this a phenomenal release that showcases two very different sides of the spectrum and is an excellent addition to Butler’s consistently growing discography.
