Northern Virginia based indie rock unit Hull blend elements of shoegaze, 90’s alternative rock, punk and post hardcore on their debut E.P. “It’s Been Like A Dream”.

The group begin with a bang right out of the gate as opening number “Faith” is full of distorted guitar riffs, pounding drums and a matter of fact style vocal stance that all fits together perfectly.

Everything shifts straight into “Standing Stones” which features a blissful guitar lead and overall dreamy vibe that’s passionate, colorful and warm.

Meanwhile “Stir The Bough” adds slightly more grit and grime to the mix with it’s powerful dynamics and angsty vocals.  This continues on “Afterimage” which takes a slightly more punk approach to things and reminds me at times of two old favorites of mine  The Riot Before and Klute.

Other highlights include the eeriness in the title track “It’s Been Like A Dream”, the anthem-like quality of “Clouds” and the sheer power of “Letting Go”.

The E.P. also includes some cool live recordings from an appearance on WMUC radio plus an instrumental version of “It’s Been Like A Dream”.

In closing I’ll say Hull are a bright, high energy rock n roll band that showcase excellent song writing and musicianship and I’m looking forward to hearing what they do next.
