San Diego based four piece Vice Algae recently released the track “Vapid House” in advance of their debut album “Golden Hell” due out May 23rd.
I was immediately drawn in by the experimental stance, spoken words and cosmic noise that open things up as it all sets the pace for the rugged intensity that this song brings.
Guitarist Aaron Legrow provides elegant yet gritty surf tones over top of the mysterious and cinematic sounding foundation set by bassist Jordan Searls and drummer Jason Nunez.
Soon vocalist Ross Zafa enters the frame to put everything over the top and create a sound that brings to mind classic artists like The Birthday Party, Screaming Jay Hawkins and The Gun Club.
The intensity builds and builds with the tempo steadily getting faster and faster before breaking into a full on blast beat followed by a sea of frantic noise that leaves you absolutely floored and wanting more.
