Beulah Rue creates ethereal post-rock with dark/dream pop textures.
Made up of vocalist Kelly Kroeker, Guitarist Kevin Filter, Drummer Brad Arsznov and Bassist Mark Bassett ,the band released its fourth EP last month with plans for more music to be released soon.
The band shares some of their favorite songs in this weeks edition of “Five For Friday” but first check out their track “Fate’s Soft Embrace”.
Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory “Afterlife”
Kelly: First off, I’m obsessed with Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory. This song is one of those songs that have multiple little “magic moments” that get stuck in your head. The lyrics are beautiful and meaningful – romantic and existential. Just a great song.
Janes Addiction “Three Days”
Kevin: This song captures everything that I love about music. It has a deep beauty that lays at the heart of the song but an intensity that ratchets up as it progresses. The words are deeply poetic.
Sade “Kiss Of Life”
Mark: The definition of smooth and groove. This was one of the first albums that wasn’t metal that I wore out from repeat listens. I’m pretty sure I’ve subconsciously copied Paul Denman’s bass stylings a bunch of times! The bass on this track is so locked in and interesting, while never overshadowing the beautiful vocals. I love this album!!
Rainer Maria “Catastrophe”
Brad: I’ve always been a fan of Rainer Maria. William Kuehn’s drumming provides a complementary foundation to their songs, and in “Catastrophe,” you can sense a hopeful movement forward amidst despair. Alongside Caithlin De Marrais’s poetic lyrical approach, Kaia Fischer’s driving guitar, they create a beautiful depiction of the end of the world.
Duran Duran “Ordinary World”
Band: Just a wonderfully beautiful song.
