Fire in the Mountains is excited to announce that the legendary Neurosis will reunite for a worldwide exclusive performance at this year’s festival. Presented by the Firekeeper Alliance— a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing suicide in Indigenous communities— the band’s long-awaited appearance will take place on the sacred lands of the Blackfeet Nation. Neurosis will appear with their new vocalist/guitarist Aaron Turner (ISIS, SUMAC, Old Man Gloom) against the backdrop of the mountains this July.
In addition to the performance announcement, Neurosis have dropped a brand new album titled An Undying Love For A Burning World today via Neurot Recordings [listen / share].
Steve Von Till comments: “I cannot think of a more appropriate environment for us to return to the stage. Last year’s Fire in the Mountains festival was the most profound music event I have ever been a part of. The weekend took on a healing, cathartic ceremonial nature that is difficult to put into words. Using emotionally heavy music to build community and collectively stare darkness in the eye is something we have always believed in, but using it to directly address the heartbreaking reality of suicide, grief, loss and trauma is taking it to another level.”
The Fire in the Mountains team is truly humbled by the band’s trust and dedication, and that the festival can be a place for residence, reconnection, reunion, catharsis, fellowship and gratitude. Fire in the Mountains Director and Founder Jeremy walker shares: “We have been working quietly with Neurosis for a long time to make this moment possible. Steve has been one of FITM’s most steadfast champions, and in turn, we strive to be his. To provide the stage for the return of one of the most impactful bands of our generation is more than a milestone—it is a dream realized. I find it difficult to put into words what this day means to me personally. FITM has always been a labor of the soul, a long journey taken by those of us who believe music should leave a mark. We invite you to join us at Red Eagle Campground for a once in a lifetime performance. Come be a part of what we are building; we truly want you there with us.”
Shane McCarthy, Fire in the Mountains Music Curator, adds: “It is a surreal and very exciting feeling to have this lineup complete, and to finally be able to utter the name ‘Neurosis‘ out loud. Constructing this year’s lineup has been full of thrills, and ‘dreams do come true’ as so many different corners of music that sits comfortably in the realm of what Fire In The Mountains is has coalesced into something that feels special, and hard to even believe at times.”
He continues: “Along with returning folks who have embedded themselves in the FITM canon, and many acts we’ve hoped to work with for some time, this year signifies a lot of reunions, returns, and new beginnings. To add among those already exciting ranks the return of Neurosis— which we have had the honor of being let into the circle on by our collaborator, friend, Firekeeper and still hero Steve Von Till— is such an affirming and energizing thing for us. Seeing the thoughtful way in which this new birth of the band has been orchestrated leading up to this new album, new lineup, and first live appearance at Fire In The Mountains has been inspiring— and to have the proverbial cat out of the bag feels incredible. The last piece of the puzzle of the music lineup is fully in place. We are proud of the collective of musicians we have aligned ourselves with this year, and now all that is left is to look forward to sharing in the experience with all of you.”

Fire in the Mountains was originally created to highlight the symbiotic relationship between heavy music and mountain landscapes. It was a way to bring people together to experience something extraordinary: the primal power of heavy music combined with the majesty and wildness of the Rocky Mountains. What transpired was a truly unique and inspiring musical experience for the audience and bands alike. Now, Fire in the Mountains is evolving to be much more than just a concert in the mountains— it’s the deliberate curation of music, art, education, food, social responsibility, and adventure with the intention to cultivate our intrinsic nature through the act of rewilding; that is, to reconnect and immerse oneself with the natural world.
Fire in the Mountains is committed not only to raising awareness of the prevalence of suicide in Indian Country but also to actively participate in the solution by providing support for suicide prevention initiatives. Fire in the Mountains aims to create a platform that brings this issue to the forefront of public consciousness and fosters a supportive community dedicated to change.
