As the co-founder of Pink Floyd Syd Barrett’s work on the bands debut album “Piper At The Gates Of Dawn” was truly ahead of it’s time. However it’s the lo-fi /DIY charm of his post-Floyd solo albums “The Madcap Laughs” and “Barrett” that were so highly influential on the post punk, shoegaze and dark psych scenes that came about in the early 80’s. For this edition of “Kopy Katz” we explore 6 of the coolest Syd Barrett covers ever recorded by some of my favorite artists. Enjoy.

The Jesus & Mary Chain “Vegetable Man”

It’s possible no other band embraced the music of Syd Barrett more than The Jesus & Mary Chain. “Vegetable Man” is the B-side to their 1st single and it’s a blistering homage to Barrett that helped expose new generations to his ground breaking sounds.

Love & Rockets “Lucifer Sam”

A bonus cut from the 2001 remastered version of the 2nd Love & Rockets album “Express”.  So goooooood.

Robyn Hitchcock “Dark Globe”

A stunning take on one of Barrett’s best compositions by one of the best songwriters of all time.

Captain Sensible “Octopus”

A beautiful version of the Barrett classic “Octopus” by Captain Sensible of The Damned. Soothing, charming and straight up blissful.

Temple Of The Dog “Baby Lemonade”

Chris Cornell and his crew were surprising audiences with their version of “Baby Lemonade” on their 2016 U.S. tour.
