Hailing from Zürich, Switzerland, Karim G has released what I truly believe is one of 2022’s best albums. “2o” has everything you want in an album. Great songwriting, perfect arrangements and excellent instrumentation. Everything is really executed in a magical way.
Beginning with the epic “Untitled” you are immediately drawn in by Karim’s entrancing voice. There’s a methodical build to the song that is full of color and emotion. The instruments blend together so well and flourish on so many levels of musical expression I can only imagine what was going through his mind as this was all being recorded. You can tell it’s all coming from a very driven and heartfelt place.
“The Drop” continues to harness this brand of magic and intensity. The vocal harmonies are a work of beauty and the laid back beat and atmospheric tones make you feel like you are “floating in space”.
The more folk driven “Home” also embraces a cinematic vibe and lets things breath in a very inviting way while “Nach De Rote” focuses on intricate guitars and a more matter of fact vocal stance.
Another favorite of mine is the more rock n roll driven “Leaving” which gives off a bit of a Swervedriver vibe at times while “Surdum” might be the most intriguing and intense track of the entire album.
Overall I feel like this is a record that’s best enjoyed all at once. It’s got such an incredible feel to it as the songs move from one to the next that it’s like one big flowing ocean all it’s own. 10 out of 10. Enjoy it here.
