Brooklyn based Alternative Rock unit Stutterboy have described themselves as “something like a band, that sprung to life out of a frustration with mission statements. I suppose that leaves us with little else to talk about, but suffice it to say that our first album, “Stutterboy”, is zero planning – all follow through.”
The album is an absolute shredder. Big songs with big riffs provided by the duel vocal/guitar attack of Grover Doyle & Zoltan Sindhu and the thunderous drumming of Greg Tock. Think The Decendents and Face To Face collaborating with a young Elvis Costello with a solid dose of Ben Folds & The Clash thrown in for good measure.
Things get going right out of the gate with the high energy fueled “When I Knew You”. It’s a fine blend of grit and melody and provides the perfect spark to draw you in.
“Nightcap” is more mid tempo but still driving and full of hooks with moments that remind me of “Turn On The Bright Lights” era Interpol while “Hold On Tight” is a galloping blast of country tinged rock n roll that even includes some Carl Perkins-esque guitar leads.
Other inspiring tracks include the bass guitar heavy “About What You Said” , the laid back crooning of “Worn Shoes” and the crushing melodic punk anthem “Urgency”.
This is truly a power house of an album from a band that not only know how to write excellent songs but have the musicianship to play them to perfection. Listen to the full album here.
