Trophy Grief was started back in 2019 by Philadelphia based musician Anthony Edward Pinkos. Their latest E.P. “Lethal Enforcers” is a remarkable record that features five top notch songs that conjure the shoegaze spirits of bands like MBV and Loop while mixing in the catchiness of Teenage Fanclub and The Pixies.
“Knocking” begins with a full tilt blast of swaying guitar mayhem that’s backed by a simple yet driving beat. The melodic leads and intriguing vocals blend together perfectly and create a whirlwind of perpetual energy that moves the song along in a big way.
Without hesitation things jump right into the equally as energetic “Spruce Street” which is quickly followed by “Bad Sport”. Both of these songs harness the perfect blend of grit and melody, drawing me in and getting me hooked with each and every listen. These songs really showcase how clever of a songwriter Pinkos has become and his ability to create the perfect riff.
Other highlights include the more melancholy feeling “Loralai” and the slow soothing atmospheric elegance of “Hypoxia” which has a really cool piano part that fades out at the end and caps off the record in grand fashion.
Overall “Lethal Enforcers” is a fantastic release that’s full of passion and spirit and makes you want to listen to it a million times at ear splittingly loud volumes. I can’t wait to hear what Anthony comes out with next.
