Over the last decade SeaGiraffe have been writing, recording and performing some of the most genuine and inspiring music to come out of the Chicago area.
Their latest effort “Prologue” features ten songs of dreamy and intensely emotional material that’s inspiring, menacing and inviting all at once.
Everything gets started with the title track which starts out rather delicately before giving way to a tidal wave of menacing yet beautiful sound that sets the pace for what’s to come.
“Drag The Force” is a driving number packed with relentless energy and an intoxicating riff that works perfectly alongside it’s catchy vocal pattern. The guitar sounds are top notch and the pounding beat keeps things going in the perfect direction.
The powerful force of “A Fog Over The Lake Tonight” moves like a tidal wave of atmospheric sounds as radiant rhythms and soothing vocals paint a portrait of passion and fire.
“He Was A Good Boy” appears to be a heartfelt tribute to a dog named Boston (aka Beanie) who must be the beautiful doggy on the album cover. It’s an incredible track that channels sounds of timeless indie rock hero’s like The Pixies & Pavement but with it’s own brand of swagger and sway.
I think “11:11” might be the most atmospheric piece on the record as the blend of lush vocals and shimmering guitar parts really register with me while “Dead Name” gives off a Matt Pond PA type vibe which I love. It’s full of great riffs and harnesses a magical undertone to it all that’s really a joy to listen to.
Another amazing piece is the ethereal spirited “Summer Snow”. The line “I Don’t Ask For Much, But I’m Always Asking Something” is pure gold. Great guitar solo in this one too.
From top to bottom “Prologue” is a tremendous record full of incredibly well crafted songs that flow together in fine form.
