Influenced by the female artists Cat Power, Fiona Apple & Hope Sandoval, Jessie Marks music takes her audiences on a journey that is both intimately personal and transcendent.
Her new album “Apparition” is a beautiful collection of incredibly well crafted songs that radiates with energy and fervor.
Lead off number “A Door Opens” is a massive wave of vibrant sound experimentation. It opens your ears and eyes wide and sets the tone for things to come.
Everything seamlessly shifts right into “Liminal Dreams”. Jessie’s voice glows throughout the song with elegance and grace. The instrumentation and musicianship is also top notch, as a silky smooth rhythm section locks in while a heartfelt lead guitar adds a touch of grit to the mix.
Next up is the title track which feels like it has this layer of magical, almost otherworldly life surrounding it. From the opening piano part to the thunderous line of “So Long My Dear, I Hope We Meet Again” you can clearly see this is a songwriter who’s at the top of their game. Honestly this song has all of the makings of a classic it just needs to be heard by the masses.
The instrumental “Wake For Sunrise” serves as a fabulous interlude that slowly gives way to the passionate and powerful sounds of “Lean In”. One of the most impressive things about Jessie is her ability to draw you in and make you feel like your right there with her while your listening to these songs. The love and honesty flow through her music in every way and this song is no exception. I also really enjoy the psychedelic tones and experimentation that moves throughout the ending.
Other favorites include the soulful sounds of “November Son”, spacey-laced tones of “Time-lapse” and the epic closer “This Is Where I’ll Stay”.
Overall I really can’t say enough great things about this record. Do yourself a favor and listen to “Apparition” below and get the full album here.
