Based in Norman Oklahoma, Indie rock/Bedroom pop band Pineapple Willows recently released their latest album “Pixelated Memories”.
I sat down with the bands vocalist/guitarist/producer Dante Frame to talk about their early musical experiences, how the band started and the making of “Pixelated Memories” which you can get here.
CMM-What was the first music that really made an impact on you all growing up and what artists and bands did you all enjoy the most?
Dante-The first music I remember that moved me was hearing Oasis album Morning Glory, from there on it was The Police, Walk the Moon, MCR, Hippo Campus, Green Day, SOAD, Slipknot, Rhianna, Blink 182. Just music of all different genres and varieties! Tyler was very into punk and different genres of metal such as Gojira and punk like Blink-182. I grew up with indie/alternative bands like Oasis, blur, young the giant, rush and other classic rock bands. Jerred has a strong background in jazz and Motown music including very strong rhythm roots in hip hop like NWA and Kendrick Lamar.
CMM-When did you all first start playing instruments and making your own music and how did everyone meet and form Pineapple Willows?
Dante-I started singing in elementary school and finally picked up guitar at 13 being taught by his father. Tyler similarly started in his young adolescents shredding on guitar and playing with various bands in and out of Oklahoma all the way to Nashville. Jerred is still new so we don’t have all the facts however we do know he’s been playing drums since he was in highschool! Tyler and I met in highschool but reconnected for PW when former Bassist Dillon departed. Various drummers have come through, Jerred our newest addition met me through Oklahoma’s band Stolen Cable and was asked to join after a brief tryout that ended spectacularly!
CMM-The group recently released a really beautiful record called “Pixelated Memories”. What was the recording process like? Any notable pieces of gear that you used throughout the sessions?
Dante-The recording of Pixelated Memories came with a lot of strife and time. Alot of musicians came and went, with alot of sessions musicians coming in to help record. The whole album was recorded Analog instead of digital like most studios today. We used the same gear we have been using nothing too wild going on. Just good music.
CMM-If the band could collaborate on an album with another band or musician who would it be and what direction do you think the music would go in?
Dante-Personally I would love to collab with either Nervous Dater, awakebutstillinbed, or Cathedral Bells. with nervous dater or ABSB I imagine our very shoegaze sound would be incorporated into their strong emo roots with some amazing vocals and verses being tossed back and forth. It would be beautiful IMO.
CMM-What do you have coming up next? Any new recordings? Playing any shows?
Dante-Shows are all starting late July and we have a new song in the works but can’t tell more, it is a secret!
