Following the announcement of new album Terrestrial Seethings out Oct. 18th, Black Pus (aka Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt) has shared gnarled, hypnotic new single “Wide Asleep.”

Oozing from the speakers and drenched in copious, corrosive fuzz, here Chippendale’s warped synthesisers and lysergic vocals are chained to an unrelenting, muscular technoid pulse, ecstatic outbursts of incandescent noise and frenzied drum blasts threatening to tear the track apart at the seams at any moment. It’s pure body music, expertly assimilating the primal energy of punk, the spiralling hypnosis of dance music and the spiritual inflammation of free jazz into mind-altering outsider-rave rapture.

Terrestrial Seethings captures the glorious sonic detail of Brian Chippendale’s unpredictable, kaleidoscopic music. Nearly 20 years since his first release as Black Pus, Chippendale remains a fearless artist, continuing to innovate with the exuberance and vibrance that has consistently guided his work. On Terrestrial Seethings, Black Pus takes his place as master conjurer uncovering new levels of distorted bliss, a howling mage reveling in the thrall of deranged loops, percussive wailing and warped synthesizers.

Chippendale’s duo Lightning Bolt will be playing select North American dates later this month, including a set at Basilica Hudson.
