Michael Corcoran is a Providence, RI-based musician whose solo work blends shoegaze, dream pop, and ambient textures into something richly layered and deeply personal.

After the release of two stellar E.P.’s  “Grade Grubber” and “More Weight” Corcoran returns with his debut full length “Well Nourished”.

The 12-song album builds on the synths, guitars, and atmosphere of the EPs, but adds live drums and a fuller, more dynamic energy.

Lead off track “Sugar Glider” harnesses a cosmic vibe and features a cagey guitar style that gives the song an underlying element of menace to go with it’s looming, cinematic dynamics.

“Unfazed” focuses more on melody as all of the instruments intertwine and play off of each other perfectly to create a massive soundscape. It’s driving rhythm alongside Corcoran’s comforting vocals also make for a stunning combination.

A pulsating array of electronics and gliding guitar chords make “Sunshine Faces” another stand out track. It’s got all of the makings of a summer anthem as it’s a truly infectious piece sure to have you singing along with it almost instantly while  “Everything That Grows” incorporates some really cool synth tones to create a wild blend of avant-garde experimentation.

Other favorites include the rich guitar tones of “It’s Going To Be Alright” the colorful flair of “Words and Wire” and the soothing feel of “Evergreen”.

I find “Well Nourished” to be a really focused album as a whole. The songs feed off of each other to create it’s own world and it’s paced a lot like a classic film.

The records closing track “Allowed Organ (Reprise)” is like a summary of the entire album and makes me think of the final scene of an epic movie as it breaks into the closing credits and leaves you with an inspired and uplifting feeling.

It’s a remarkable achievement and an album I’ll keep in regular rotation for years to come.
