Nothingland is a rock band who traverse the ethos of heavy harmonic structures, saturated riffs, and odd-meter rhythms.
Based in Ellensburg, Washington their latest E.P. “Chroma” features five tracks that are absolutely genius.
Things start off with “be not afraid” which contains rich, melodic hooks and clever melodies. It also showcases a really strong vocal and just the right amount of fuzz and grit to create the perfect vibe.
Up next is the slightly hypnotic and mysterious cadence of “The Inevitable” which harnesses some pretty haunting tones that blend perfectly with the drive of the bass and drums and the “matter of fact” vocal delivery.
“The Meadow” also has a thunderous energy to it all as it’s uplifting tones and infectious rhythm are sure to have you singing along in no time, while the slow methodical pace of “wait for” adds some heaviness to the mix while maintaining an underlying sense of melody.
Everything comes to a close with “grey” which starts out as a moody piece blending acoustic guitars with math rock riffs before breaking into a full on blast of fuzzed out noise that all sounds truly incredible.
Reflecting on the making of “Chroma” Guitarist/Vocalist Josh Humphrey said…
“For this record, we had five new songs but we intentionally played them live a bunch of times before recording. That way they coalesced and sort of took on a shape beyond the basic form. This is our third EP, and with each new set of songs we are honing our sound.”
Overall this is a fantastic record with stellar songwriting and musicianship alongside top notch production and I really can’t recommend it enough.
