Since their inception in 2004, East Coast minimal wave institution Xeno & Oaklander— which features Sean McBride and Liz Wendelbo— have helped promote and inspire the revival of synth wave and the rise of dark wave in the U.S. and throughout the world. The duo have released an impressive amount of full-lengths, EP’s, singles and more and have cemented themselves at the forefront of electronic music history.
Xeno & Oaklander released their triumphant eighth LP Via Negativa (in the doorway light) last November on Dais Records and toured extensively in support of it. Early 2025 saw the band canvassing Europe and the UK and now, they’ll close out the year with highly-anticipated festival performances at Sanctum in Chicago, Substance in San Francisco and Los Angeles, in addition to standalone shows in Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas and Brooklyn.
Xeno & Oaklander‘s live performances are nothing short of brilliant; their trademark sound fuses retro and futuristic influences, built on rich analog synthesizers and pulsating grooves, with the end result being irresistibly danceable. These shows are ones not to miss— if you haven’t seen Xeno & Oaklander live yet, now is the time:
