Two weeks out from the release of their third album Dungeon Vision, Earth Tongue today release ‘Silver Eye’ a high energy hit of fuzz, psychedelica and their signature riffs.
Born out of a creative push between continents, ‘Silver Eye’ came together after Earth Tongue returned from California to a frozen Berlin, determined to lock in a few more studio sessions to complete the record. While much of Dungeon Vision was tracked earlier in Los Angeles with Ty Segall, the band felt there was room for something faster, louder, and more immediate.
“We knew we needed to sprinkle in a few more fuzzy bangers to make the album feel complete,” guitarist Gussie Larkin and drummer Ezra Simons explain; “We booked a few days with Richard Behrens at Big Snuff Studios, and ‘Silver Eye’ was born. We love the up-tempo feel, the journey of the bridge, and the psychedelic chorus.
Produced and recorded with Behrens, a respected figure in the Berlin underground and long-time collaborator with bands including Kadavar, Samsara Blues Experience, and Elder, ‘Silver Eye’ balances raw urgent momentum with hypnotic groove. Thunderous riffs collide with swirling psych textures, building toward a huge, cathartic ending that feels tailor-made for the stage.
That instinct proved right, when the band began road-testing the track during their US tour in late 2025, where it quickly became a standout moment in the live set.
“It became one of our favorite parts of the show- high-energy riffs, groovy sections, and a massive ending,” they say. “We want the audiences of our upcoming tours to get to know it so they’re ready.”
With ‘Silver Eye’, Earth Tongue continue to sharpen their reputation for visceral, riff-driven psych rock that hits just as hard live as it does on record – a signal of what’s to come on Dungeon Vision.
Ushering in a new era, the Berlin-based, New Zealand heavy psych duo lower the castle gates on their upcoming third album, with a trove of fuzz-drenched anthems. The band previously shared a video for the single and title track, which was the first song written for the album, with early ideas forming before the band’s 2024 move to Berlin. The track came to life during a rare break from touring in August that year, when the band finally had time to demo it and send it to Segall.
Larkin and Simons spent the winter of 2025 refining the album’s twelve tracks in their self-described “windowless cave” rehearsal space, crafting a record that channels both isolation and the duo’s live intensity. With the songs finally taking shape and a studio deadline looming, they flew to Los Angeles to turn their hard-won ideas into the real thing. Once there, the band and Ty captured lightning in a bottle, recording and mixing Dungeon Vision in just ten days at Altamira Sound.
Tracked live to tape, the album pulses with human energy, fuzz guitars, bone-battering drums, and hauntingly tuneful vocals. Segall’s influence is all over the record, with him choosing the best takes based on feel rather than technical perfection. The “king of fuzzy guitar tones” pushed the duo to find new sonic textures while championing their raw chemistry.
“Ty’s been a big driving force,” says Ezra. “We supported him in New Zealand back in 2023, and he’s backed us ever since, even bringing us on tour through Europe and the UK in 2024.”
That creative trust shines through on ‘Ritual’, born from Segall’s challenge to write an a cappella track. The result is a genre-bending explosion of four-part harmonies that nods to Gussie’s choral roots. Other highlights listeners can look forward to include ‘Body of Water’, a psych-folk journey inspired by English acts like Trees and Fairport Convention, and ‘Symmetry Dripper’, a synth-laced instrumental that could soundtrack an ‘80s arcade fever dream.
Since their emergence in 2016, Earth Tongue’s world-building, visuals, and relentless touring have earned them global attention and a cult-like following. Their 2024 album Great Haunting, also released on In The Red Records, received a Taite Music Prize nomination and saw them win Best Group at the 2025 Aotearoa Music Awards. They’ve toured extensively, sharing stages with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, IDLES, Acid King, Brant Bjork and Kikagaku Moyo, and this summer will appear at King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Field Of Vision Festival in Colorado.
With Dungeon Vision, Earth Tongue deliver their most immersive work yet, a richly human, fuzz-soaked journey that bottles the magic of their live show and cements their reputation as one of the most exciting psych rock acts on the planet.
New Zealand audiences won’t need to wait long to see Earth Tongue in full flight, with their six-date and seven show tour beginning in Kerkeri on album release day. They then head to Auckland, Hamilton, Dunedin, Christchurch, including a newly announced matinee show, before wrapping up in Wellington on February 21st. Tickets on sale now from earthtongue.co.nz.
