Brooklyn musician Marjorine delivers well on this brilliant new E.P. “Mattress 4 U”. Recorded during the pandemic over March 2020 through June 2021 in various locations the songs serve as a diary of sorts written by someone during a time of chaos and uncertainty but with the ability to still harness the beauty and love of the world .  When reflecting on how the recordings came about they stated “I had originally set out to make a more minimal, groove oriented electronic rock record and ended up making something more akin to dream-pop and shoegaze.”

Pulsating synths and beats flow through opening piece “See What You Want To See”. It’s vibrant vocals and breezy feel make it practically impossible not to bob your head and groove along to it. It’s dreamy, uplifting and colorful vibes are truly satisfying.

“Sleepy Monsters” takes the level of psychedelic textures to new heights with it’s booming bass line, shuffling beat and spacey vocal deliver. It’s a fantastic mix of shimmering shoegaze delight meshed with tropical electronic bliss. Cinematic, captivating and kind in every way.

The swirling tones of “Dessert Princess” move like vibrant rays of sunshine as if they were the result of going back in time and having a chance meeting with Donovan and Syd Barrett backstage at a Rupert’s People concert in 1967 only to return to the present day and trying to describe what they encountered. It’s an amazing blast of sonic manipulation at it’s best.

The record closes with the soothing sounds of “Converge” which is drenched in lush atmospherics and backed by a flourishing beat that gives all new meaning to the word experimental. There are traces of jazz, world music ,soul, psych and dream pop all rolled into one. It’s an incredibly hypnotic piece that works well on headphones or by being blasted through a massive sound system. A true banger to bring everything to a climactic close.

I really can’t get enough of this. Highly Recommended. Listen to it in full here
