Rockford, Illinois shoegazers Side Thing are back with a brand new E.P. simply titled “Dirge”.  Things get going right out of the gate with the upbeat and uplifting spirit of “Foxglove”. It radiates an array of colorful sounds that are backed by a vibrant beat, chiming guitars and a wash of cinematic synths.

“Dry” is a blast of relentless noise smothered in dark atmospheric melodies. It’s rich in elegance yet packed with a menace and grit that brings to mind the likes of The Pastels, The Singapore Sling and Bardo Pond.

There are some outstanding experimental sounds coming from all over the place throughout “Planchette” that makes the track feel like an anthem for an unknown world while “Debbie” is a delightfully catchy piece that closes the record out in first-class form.

Overall “Dirge” captures the brilliance of this band in every way. Their sound is multi-sided but it all gels together perfectly to create some of the most blissful music you’ll here anywhere. Highly recommended. Listen to all four songs here.
