Brooklyn underground trio Upper Wilds announce new album Jupiter, out July 21st. The third instalment in the trio’s exploration of our solar system looks to its largest planet for a daring exploration of scale and perspective. Just like its namesake, Jupiter stands as Upper Wilds most colossal offering in their catalog. The raw power of their music is amplified to titanic proportions, sky-clawing riffs invoking the sheer awe that the heavens inspire. Alongside the album announcement, Upper Wilds share two new tracks that capture the band’s breadth: the anthemic, soaring, 90’s inspired “Jupiter” and the earthen, rumbling, Sabbath-esque “10’9″”.

Through the album Jupiter, Upper Wilds voyage deeper into the cosmos, mapping out the overwhelming enormity of the universe in soaring hooks and blistering noise. Celebrated New York indie mainstay Dan Friel (who in addition to his solo albums and work in Upper Wilds has collaborated with Tyondai Braxton, Glenn Branca, Damo Suzuki, and Ui to name a few.) shows his melodic gifts and wry lyricism on each track, the heavy noise pop harkening back to his late 90’s outfit Parts & Labor. The album’s momentum is driven by the roaring rhythm section of drummer Jeff Ottenbacher and bassist Jason Binnick. Recorded with Travis Harrison at Serious Business in Brooklyn (Guided By Voices, Dope Body, The Men), the trio’s live recordings are heavily inspired by the Voyager Golden Record – a double LP launched with the 1977 Voyager probe spanning field recordings to compositions by J.S. Bach and Laurie Spiegel.
