Bay Are post-hardcore unit Drought impress on their debut self-titled E.P. Led by the cathartic stance of vocalist Viggy Ram and the intricate work of guitarists Eric Nakano and RJ Rabe the band create a feeling of urgency in their music that’s both beautiful and intense.

Opening track “Consequential Love” is full of uplifting energy and melodic riffs that kick the E.P. off in fine form.

Up next is the slightly more chaotic “Oh, Javelin!”. It starts with a moody, almost cinematic riff that eventually explodes into a frantic blast of pounding hardcore that’s infectious and inspiring.

Things close out with the driving sounds of “MacArthur Station” which is backed by the bands solid rhythm section made up of Bassist Chris Palowitch and Drummer Ray Avila. The songs gang vocals and overall vocal cadence offer a trace of old school melodic hardcore that meshes well next to the aggressive and noisier elements of the track.

Overall this is a most excellent three song E.P. that’s written and recorded well. I also really like the cover art as it certainly adds to the overall feeling of the music. Really excited to hear what this band does next. Listen to “Oh, Javelin!”  below and get the full E.P. on June 23rd here.
